Stay Safe, Keep Calm and Carry On

How the world has changed in just a couple of weeks! It seems that only yesterday I was picking up our son at the airport, preparing to host him for just a few days during his college spring break. Now, we are adjusting to having him home for the foreseeable future as he completes his semester online and we try to practice “social distancing” as a family.

Since the beginning of March, Domi has been monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and following the recommendations of the CDC and other authorities to keep our community safe. We implemented a Coronavirus Policy and have continued to update it as conditions change.

On March 13th, we paused general public events in our space and made access available to members only. This was not an easy decision to make, as building community is our mission. However, This decision has increased social distancing at Domi and has kept our space healthy and safe so far.

Spring break gave us an extra week to see how the new policies worked and to learn from other communities around the country. This week, as we return to our new “normal” we are faced with a situation that is still evolving, with social distancing recommendations growing into “stay at home” right here in Leon County.

We understand this situation is frustrating and full of uncertainty as things continue to change, but we want you to know we’re here for you. During hurricanes Hermine and Michael, we were able to provide shelter and resources to those in need. We plan to do the same for the COVID-19 response while adjusting to the unique challenges of the current circumstance.

Because of COVID-19, we might have increased restrictions to interact in person, but we are not ceasing to operate as a community. We are using this situation as a challenge to leverage technology and find innovative ways to bring people together, keep us connected, and remain productive. New digital programs and collaborations with partners are in the works to help us achieve this, so stay tuned!

More announcements regarding Domi’s next steps will come soon, so be on the lookout. Our goal is to continue to support all of you as we overcome together the challenges in front of us.

Stay safe, keep calm and carry on,

Antonio Montoya, Executive Director
