'A Community Thrives' Looks For Local Grant Applicants

The Gannett Foundation has released a new $2.3 million initiative to support local nonprofits and civic groups. The Tallahassee Democrat’s parent company is seeking organizations to apply for the A Community Thrives program, with groups that focus on building up historically under-resourced and underserved groups will be specially considered. Tallahassee Businesses: Adopt a Kindergarten Class

The county is expecting over 3,000 children to enroll in kindergarten for the new school year. The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with LCS and World Class schools to create “Classroom Connection”. This new initiative will allow businesses in the area to support teachers and students in the classroom. By adopting a classroom, a business will assist teachers by volunteering to read, hosting school supply drives, providing virtual field trips, etc. For the full story, click here.

Leon County Tourism Launches New "Summer Backyard Bucket List" Challenge

Leon County Division of Tourism in partnership with Tallahassee Foodies and the Capital City Chamber of Commerce, launched its new, community-focused program the “Summer Backyard Bucket List”. This challenge is for residents to participate in throughout the summer and encourages them to visit local businesses & attractions, educating residents on the continually evolving community. The challenge will run for three months (June-August) and will have a new bucket list each month. Participating members of the community will have a chance to win monthly prizes as well as one grand sweepstakes prize, which will be announced in September.  For more information, click here.
